Technical Engineer

Brighouse
Full-time
Permanent employee
38,000 - 42,000 £ per year

Why Join Siddall and Hilton?

Siddall & Hilton have been manufacturing in Brighouse since 1895, and today we're the UK's leading manufacturer of welded wire mesh panels. We're looking for a hands-on, curious Technical Engineer to learn from our most experienced people, capture decades of specialist know-how before they retire, and turn it into the standards the whole team works to.

It's a role with real breadth — hands-on fault-finding and machine optimisation one day, building the technical knowledge library and coaching the next. If you're a mechanical engineer who loves getting to the root of a problem and leaving things better and more repeatable than you found them, this is a rare chance to make a role your own.

What You'll Be Doing?

£38,000 - £42,000 per annum depending on experience - Full-time I Brighouse, West Yorkshire - 42.5 hours per week - Annualised hours - Closing date: 11th September 2026
  • Troubleshoot production issues and support operators, minimising technical downtime
  • Investigate defects and get to the real cause rather than the symptom
  • Fine-tune machinery for stable output, quality and repeatable performance
  • Support Production Technicians through complex set-ups, changeovers and start-ups
  • Identify and improve machine changeover and set-up best practice
  • Make sure tooling, consumables and circulating parts are specified, serviceable and ready when needed
  • Capture specialist knowledge and turn it into clear guides, standards, training and a searchable knowledge library
  • Drive continuous improvement using Lean and data, and trial practical engineering modifications through proper change control
  • Deliver hands-on training for Production Technicians and Engineering trainees, working safely at all times

What We’re Looking For

  • A strong ability to absorb and retain technical knowledge — this role is built around learning from experienced colleagues and remembering what you’re shown
  • Experience supporting an industrial manufacturing environment, with strong troubleshooting and analytical skills
  • Hands-on experience of machine changeover and set-up
  • Excellent teamworking, training and communication skills
  • Good digital familiarity and accurate record-keeping, plus health & safety awareness
  • A mechanical or manufacturing apprenticeship (or equivalent hands-on experience), and GCSE Maths and English at grade C/4 or equivalent
Nice to have
  • Working knowledge of Lean manufacturing principles
  • Hands-on tool and machine-tool experience, welding / wire mesh manufacture, or an FLT counterbalance licence
About you
  • Customer-focused, driven and dependable, with real personal integrity.
  • A natural at analysis and sound decision-making, teamwork, and helping others perform.
  • Adaptable and open to new technology, with a continuous-improvement mindset.
  • Ideally, curious about automation and AI — always spotting and suggesting better ways of working.

What's in it for you

  • Competitive pay, £38,000 - £42,000 per annum depending on experience
  • 34 days' paid leave, inclusive of bank holidays (carry over up to 5 days for extra flexibility)
  • Industry-leading salary-sacrifice pension scheme, helping you grow your retirement savings while paying less tax
  • Life assurance equivalent to 4x salary
  • Paid charity volunteering day
  • Long-service awards
  • Employee referral scheme
  • Pirkx platform with access to a broad range of discounts and offers
  • Cycle to Work scheme
  • Access to a free personal financial coach with Octopus Money Coach
  • Free on-site parking, or a short walk from the train station
  • Free on-site EV charging points
  • Team garden space, canteen and games area
  • On-site shower facilities and cycle shelter
  • Employee Assistance
